Call for Volunteers! FIRST LEGO LEAGUE
Championship tournament at St. Margaret’s School on February 2, from 8 am to 4 pm
This is our big official tournament with over 40 teams, with awards given out and one or two lucky teams advancing to an international championship. We’ll also have an “expo" for the FLLJr (the younger, 6-10 year-old) kids.
We need lots and lots of help for the championship.

Volunteer Roles:
It would be great if you could help us as a judge! We need lots of judges, and the judges don’t have to be experts in any particular field. Of course it is a bonus if you have a background related to this year’s challenge; but there is a huge variety of backgrounds which would be good to have. Any “ordinary adult” who likes kids and is willing to interact with them and give them some positive feedback can be a judge.
As a judge you would be part of a panel of 2-3 judges spending about 10 minutes with each team, and then writing down some notes and/or discussing what you thought of the team with your fellow judges. On Feb. 2 we’ll have 4 or 5 judging panels; each panel will see about 10 teams.
Project judges watch a team’s presentation (max. 5 minutes) and then talk to them. (Is it clear which problem was being investigated? Did they talk to any experts in the field? Are they able to explain their solution? Did they check whether this solution already exists? Was their presentation interesting? Did they speak clearly? Did everyone participate?.. etc.)
Robot Design judges look at the mechanical design and the programming of a team’s robot, asking questions and watching the team demonstrate their work. (Does the robot fall apart? Can it do any of the missions? Can the kids explain why they built the robot the way they did? Can they show a program? Do they use sensors, loops, switches? Do they write comments in their programs? Can each team member say something about the robot?….etc.)
Core Values judges look at HOW a team does things. Usually there will be a teamwork activity for about 5 minutes (for example the team might get some materials, is asked to build a tower out of it and then gets 3 minutes to do it). The judges watch the team at work and then talk to the kids. (Do they listen to each other? Are they polite to the judges? Are team members able to go along with group decisions without sulking? Does the entire team participate? Do they seem to enjoy themselves? Can they give examples of giving or receiving help to/from others within or outside of FLL? Are they familiar with FIRST’s Core Values? … etc.)
After the judging interviews the judges walk around, watching/visiting teams at their pit tables or during robot runs; and then all the judges get together to figure out which team should get which awards. Sometimes the judges will call for repeat (“callback”) interviews, for example if several teams were really good at giving an interesting presentation, but they had been seen by different panels of judges.
Judging can be quite fun and really interesting. We also provide training for judges, sample questions to ask and forms to help record notes about each team’s performance.
Judging does need some advance preparation since you need to know the FLL Core Values, and you also need to know what kind of awards are being given out. But as mentioned above, apart from that you just need to be an “ordinary adult” who likes kids and is willing to give positive feedback.
Here is a bit more about a judge's job: https://www.firstinspires.org/resource-library/fll/judges
Snacks and coffee and lunch for the judges are being provided :-)

Campus View Winterfest & Craft Fair
Saturday, December 8, 11am - 3pm
Dear Student Volunteers, we are requesting your help with our children's crafting rooms for our annual fair.
Volunteers are asked to assist children with a simple craft, which include decorating gingerbread cookies, gift wrapping presents, making bath salts, making hot chocolate reindeer, layered cookie mix and more. Each craft is completed in a different classroom, and simple instructions and all supplies are laid out prior to your arrival. Volunteers do not need to attend for the whole time, as any assistance is much appreciated; however, those volunteers that do attend for 3 hours or more will be provided a pizza lunch. If you are able to help decorate on Friday, December 7, from 3pm-5pm, we would also appreciate your help.
Please email [email protected] if you have any questions or if you are available.
Thank you.

This is a very busy and packed event and things can get pretty harried at times! It's important to stay calm and know that if there is ever an issue that I am on site the entire time and ready to help. It's mostly about having fun and being nice to little kids:-)

Track & Field Help
Please email Mr. Cunningham if you can help on any of the days... [email protected] or see him in room 32
And please fill out this form
Hello everyone!
Track and Field season begins after spring break so it is time that I need some volunteers again! If you were to do all the available dates, you would earn 20 hours of Flex service time.
I need volunteers to help with the high jump pit on the following Wednesdays from 3:45pm- about 5:45pm. All the meets are at UVic, so you would be responsible to get there and have a way home after the event is done.
April 4th (first day back after spring break!)
April 11th
April 18th
April 25th
May 2nd
I also need volunteers to help all day (8:30am-5:30pm) on Wednesday May 9th at the Lower Island Championships, which is also at UVic.
Ideally, I would like two groups of three people to help, so six volunteers in total.
It is a simple job but requires three people to complete. There will be adults there running the event, you are just helping with putting the bar back up and setting the height for the bar, with the supervision and direction of an official.

The Cridge Village Seniors Centre, located at 1307 Hillside Ave., is looking to connect high school students with seniors to help the seniors begin to get online and learn to use technology. They are seeking students to visit the centre and mentor the seniors who are mostly in their 80’s and 90’s. The student’s would connect with and mentor residents who use computers, laptops and iPads to connect, play games, read the news, for example. Some students may work with seniors who have never used a computer, iPad or laptop before and help them explore all that the wired world has to offer.
The commitment is important because you will be building a relationship with the person, so the Cridge Centre is looking for students to commit each Tuesday from 4:00pm-4:45pm from now until the end of school (of course, holidays like Winter and March break wouldn't be expected). You would meet your senior at the Cridge Centre (at 1307 Hillside Ave.).
There are 14 spots available and the initial orientation for students is next Tuesday (November 14th) and the partnerships begin the week after that.
If you are interested, please complete the form below. If you have questions, you can contact me or Alison Chamberlain at [email protected]

Hey everyone!
As coach of the cross country team, I need some help to run a meet on October 5th at Henderson Golf Course. There are two jobs we need help with:
1. In partners, you will hand out finish line placings to runners as they finish the race. This entails handing them a popsicle stick as the walk out of the finishing chute. Super easy.
2. In partners, you will stand at a corner and point runners in the right direction. Even easier.
You would need to be in the field behind Henderson Recreation Centre at 3:30pm on Thursday October 5th. You will be done your work by 5:00pm. You will receive two hours of volunteer time due to travel time to and from the event.
I need 30 volunteers. Please use this link to sign up or email me with your name (and your partner's name if you have someone you want to work with).

Thank you for your help and support of our team!

I thoroughly enjoyed volunteering, so please keep me on the list for next year.
I was delighted to help out. It was all so well-organized …
I had a thoroughly enjoyable day, and it seemed like everyone involved felt the same. Lots of very positive comments.

Hello,
My name Henry Lee, I’m with the Capital Regional District (CRD). Katie Pearson, my cohort, suggested that I contact you as environmental leaders at your schools. I am invite you, your staff and especially your students to the launch/kickoff of the
CRD 2017 Medications Return Campaign at Shoppers Drug Mart at 1627 Fort Street on April 27th from 12 noon to 1.
The campaign is to raise awareness of how to properly dispose of waste medication and to promote the British Columbia Medications Return Program (BCMRP). There will be giveaways, prizes and cupcakes.
Why am I inviting your students? The annual CRD medications return campaigns have been successful. Today, the Capital Region has one of the highest medications return rates in British Columbia. However the CRD 2015 Pollution Prevention Survey highlighted that 70% of residents between the ages of 18 – 34 were not aware of the BCMRP and how to properly dispose of waste medication.
I hope to see you there. If you would like more information please give me a shout.
Cheers,
Henry

REYNOLDS TRACK & FIELD VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Hey everyone!
As coach of the track and field team, I need eight volunteers for this season.
I need six committed individuals to help run the high jump pits (two teams of three people). This requires moving the stands from one spot to another, raising the height of the bar, and picking up the bar when someone knocks it over. That's it. These people would need to be available on Wednesdays from 3:45pm-6:00pm beginning April 5th and going until May 18th.
I would also like two volunteers who are keen to play with my sons, Holden (4.5 years old) and Winston (2.5 years old) while I coach the practice. Ideally, this would be two friends who are available on Mondays from 3:30pm until 5:00pm and Wednesdays from 3:30pm until 5:30pm, beginning next Monday and going until May 15th (but not March Break or Easter Monday).
So I need:
-Two teams of three people (six total) for high jump (Wednesdays from 3:45pm-6pm, April 5th until May 18th)
-Two friends to babysit (Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30pm-5:00pm, until May 15th)
Please contact me at [email protected] if you are interested in either of the above volunteer opportunities!
Thanks!

A film telling the inspiring story of
South African women seeking food justice
This is a film about resilience – three generations of older women in a village in South Africa who came together in the dying days of apartheid to create a community garden. In the midst of severe drought and political turmoil, older women with limited access to land and little political voice joined together, beyond the household, beyond their kin, to make something new. They named their garden Hleketani– “thinking” in the local xiTsonga language – a place where women gather to think about how to effect change. The garden provides affordable vegetables to local people, nourishes those living with HIV/AIDS, helps offset some effects of climate change, and offers land, community, and opportunity for women. The Thinking Garden tells the remarkable story of what can happen when older women take matters into their own hands, and shows how local action in food production can give even the most vulnerable people a measure of control over their food and their futures.
Current context: The Thinking Garden is launched against the backdrop of the epic drought of the past two years across Southern Africa. The most severe drought in decades, this climate change- and El Nino-linked event has left over 30 million people food insecure and caused soaring food prices across the region. Women, with less access to crucial resources like irrigation, and children are hardest hit in such disasters. South Africa’s Hleketani Community Garden, the ‘thinking garden,’ demonstrates how women’s collaborative efforts and community building can mitigate some of the worst effects of climate change.

SEEDY SATURDAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Sat. Feb. 18th
Contact: Patricia McGuire [email protected]
Poster below
AV VOLUNTEER
The volunteer assists with the AV set up for two or more speakers and monitors their talks to ensure the presentations go smoothly. While Seedy Saturday is an informal event, we deliver speaker talks professionally and professional AV support is supplied by the onsite AV supplier. Experience working with AV and computer equipment, ability to solve basic technical problems, courtesy and efficiency are required.
On event day, you will be given an orientation to the AV equipment set up for each talk. The onsite professional AV technician will also monitor one or more of the speaker rooms, and is available to assist you. You will assist the speaker with the lavaliere microphone, sound levels, and room lights. You will be both seated at the back of the room and roam between speakers to ensure all is going smoothly. Shift is 3 hours.
KIDS’ ACTIVITY VOLUNTEER
The volunteer welcomes children and parents into the Kids' Activity Area and oversees their participation with the simple educational activities offered. This area is next to the exhibits in the Exhibit Hall and is for children approx. 4 - 10 years of age. This is not a childminding service; however, some children can comfortably remain on their own while their parents briefly visit the exhibits. Some children will remain occupied longer than others. Some parents may participate with the activities. Shift is 3 hours.
SEED EXCHANGE VOLUNTEER
The Seed Exchange is the 'heart' of any seedy event, where gardeners trade or donate their own saved food, flower and herb seeds. It is also where people new to the idea of growing a plant, can purchase seeds inexpensively. While some volunteers sort and package the donated seeds, others interact with the public and converse about seeds the public wish to puchase. Shift is 2 hours.

We welcome you to join us for a documentary night and discussion hosted by Camosun. In 2015, renowned documentary filmmaker Gianfranco Rosi spent months on the island as the European migrant crisis grew and witnessed the humanitarian disaster that has resulted in the deaths of hundreds attempting to cross the Mediterranean in unsafe conditions. Fire at Sea powerfully documents one of the most urgent global issues of our time.

Participants will join Taiwo Afolabi, a Ph.D student in applied theatre at UVic. Excellent for those interested and in the field of international development. Please pre-register at [email protected]

We are able to provide reference letters, references, and also sign off documents required for the graduation transition plan. It can be difficult to find a volunteer position or a job during this time to meet the graduation requirements, so I am reaching out to your school to offer an opportunity for students who may be interested.
The minimum age for volunteering is 14, and all volunteers under the age of 18 must sign and complete a volunteer consent form. If you require more information, our volunteer page can be reached through the following link: http://www.tsukinocon.com/volunteer/
I have also attached a copy of a poster and flyer to this email for review and possible distribution within your school.
Thank you for your time. I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Erik J.

West Shore Aquatic Club is looking for a few motivated coaches for the upcoming swim season. As of right now I'm looking for 2 or 3 students who are willing to coach an elementary school group at Esquimalt Rec starting September 26th. These lessons will run on Monday and Wednesdays from 3:30- 4:15 until December 14th.
A swimming background is a plus, but not required as I hope to find a few who are willing to go through a training session with me at a pool to make sure they are comfortable with the drills and lesson plans. I am hoping to find Reynolds students as I was in both Flex and CPREC and understand and appreciate the skills those programs gave me in my coaching career and would like to give some of that back.
If there is any interest please give me a call at 250-216-6631 or email me at [email protected].
Thank you,
Brian MacArthur

Volunteers needed as Hospitality Greeters & Refreshment Helpers for for Interactive Community Art Project for EARTH DAY April 20-28th
Shifts are 2 or 3 hour as per availability.
Come Walk With The Beings otherwise known as the "All BeingsConfluence in Victoria" is a travelling community art project celebrating our inter connectedness. It is an interactive art installation which is being sponsored by a collaborative partnership with Cadboro Bay United Church; Ancient Forest Alliance; Victoria Refugee & Immigrant Centre Society; First Metropolitan United Church; The Learning Curve (formerly The Learning Disability Association). The art installation will be hung in Cadboro Bay United Church but it is not about religion and it is not about Churchill. It is in celebration of Earth Day and is about coming together through art to remember that all life is interconnected.
All Beings Confluence is an ever-expanding fabric art installation created by many individuals from multiple communities over the last five years. From April 20th to April 28th this installation will be available for viewing daily from 10am to 8pm. I am writing to ask if any of your students would be interested and available to volunteer as hospitality greeters and assist with refreshments for 2 or 3 hour shifts as per their availability.
I am acting as a Volunteer Coordinator for this event and would like to ask your assistance if possible in recruiting students to both attend and hopefully volunteer for this project. We have an excellent website available thru

Please either contact me directly at 250-721-3395 or at [email protected] or give the students my email so they can contact me.
Thank you for your assistance, I believe this will be both interesting and educational.

Canadian Cancer Society
see Mr. Norris-Jones in room 212 if you are interested and want more details...
Do you have any students who might want to help out with any of our Daffodil month street teams? This would count towards volunteer hours as well.
This is where people in small groups sell cut flowers and pins for the Canadian Cancer Society. We have found that in very high traffic locations teams of volunteers create a buzz and feeling of excitement when working together. We are looking for high energy, enthusiastic and outgoing volunteers to be part of our Street Teams.
Here are the dates.
Thank you!

Easter Event
Date: Saturday March 26
Time: 10:30am-1pm
Event: Tony Joe & Associates Annual Oak Bay Easter Celebration
Location: Oak Bay Municipal Hall at 2167 Oak Bay Ave.
Details: 2-3 volunteers to help set up and manage a craft station at the event. Volunteers will help the kids (ranging in ages 3-12) colour, use stickers, make little easter treats, etc.
Keep the table accessible and as tidy as possible. Then help clean the area up and put crafts neatly away in containers provided. It gets pretty busy so much of the job is refilling craft supplies and organizing the table and making sure the kids are having fun.
Clothing: Plain t-shirt (no "offensive" comedic sayings on them), clean jeans. If they had a Reynolds T-Shirt that would be awesome! We will be under a tent but bring a hat & sweater just in case. If you have Easter Bunny ears, feel free to wear that as well.
You will be representing Gobid.ca who is supplying the crafts for this Easter Event.

LACROSSE 3-on-3 Festival: Saturday May 7th and Sunday 8th, 2016
Email Kevin at [email protected] if you are interested. Respond to Kevin with your availability and the job you are interested in.
Each year the Saanich Minor Lacrosse Association holds an in-house 3 on 3 tournament for our players, ages 5 - 16. The tournament is a fun, two-day event that kicks off our season and will take place on May 7 & 8 at Braefoot Park. It consists of multiple 10 minute games played on a half court for each age group. This event is a highlight of the season for many of our kids. Last year we had great help from Reynolds volunteers and I am hoping we can do the same this year. We need 9 volunteers for the weekend for the following jobs:
I am fine with the volunteers rotating through jobs. The event will run both days, starting at 8:00 on Saturday and ending around 7:00 pm. Sunday will run from 8:00 to 4:00. Food and drinks will be provided.
Students interested in volunteering can email me at [email protected].

Saanich BIKE FESTIVAL-- Volunteers Needed for Sunday April 17th
Email Heather to forward to Harry Lewis a past Reynolds Flex Teacher helping organize the event.
The focus this year will be more on getting people out using the bike trails with the main festival site at Saanich city hall. http://www.saanichcyclingfestival.ca
There will also be 'stations' at various places along the trail network, and one is planned for the Reynolds corner of the Lochside Trail.
I'm wondering if there are any keen cyclists on staff, or even students, who might be prepared to help out on the festival day, Sun Apr 17th.

Victoria Film Commission's annual Oscar Viewing Gala on Feb 28
From Connie McConnell (please contact her if you are interested):

I am going to be looking for several volunteers in a few categories:
1. Ballet dancers who have a flowing white tutu and white body suit - I need 12

Restoration Volunteering at at Fort Rodd Hill
Hello,
My name is Stephanie Hurst and I am a co-op student working with Parks Canada as a Garry Oak Ecosystems Restoration Technician at Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Site in Colwood. I am writing to inform you, so that you may inform your students, of the restoration volunteer program that we run. I understand that high-school students must complete a certain number of community service or work experience hours to complete graduation transitions. Being an ecological restoration volunteer would be a perfect opportunity for students interested in nature and sciences, as well as others, to develop skills, make meaningful contributions to the restoration project and have fun with their friends while enjoying time spent outdoors.
Below:
a poster about the program
a detailed description of the volunteer program including what to expect, what to bring, how to get involved etc.

OPERATION TRACK SHOES JUNE 12-14
WEEKEND STUDENT COUNSELORS NEEDED
My name is Shawn Slavin, and I volunteer with an organization called Operation Trackshoes, a provincial sports festival for people with developmental disabilities. Operation Trackshoes is a weekend-long, track and field type event, that focuses on providing a safe and supportive environment for integration of people with and without disabilities through participation in recreational and social activities. The organization has been around for 45 years, and sees a few hundred competitors from all over BC come to Victoria for one weekend every year.
Operation Trackshoes is a completely volunteer based organization, including the Executive and Board Members, and relies entirely on the generosity of its volunteers. How it works is that volunteer counselors are matched up with one or more competitor and their role is to accompany them through a track and field meet, and to be a friend (there are also a lot of other social activities besides the track and field meet).
This year, the event runs from the evening of June 12th (Friday) to the morning of June 14th (Sunday). The event takes place at UVic, and food, accommodations, and parking are all covered for volunteers. The reason why I am connecting with you is because there has been a spike in competitors who are interested in coming this year, and this is a great opportunity for students to get involved, and gain some volunteer work experience. We currently have a wait list of individuals who we are unable to admit for the weekend simply because we do not have enough volunteers to support the demand.
Counselor Application Forms are available on our website (http://trackshoes.ca/pdf/counsellor_application_form.pdf) and we are hoping that volunteers can submit their forms as soon as possible (that way we can let competitors who are on the waitlist know whether they will be able to attend or not).
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me at this email address, or by telephone (250-418-5450). I sincerely appreciate your help in sharing this information, and spreading the word about Operation Trackshoes.
Thanks so much!
Shawn Slavin

GREATER VICTORIA GREEN TEAM
My name is Amanda Evans and I am the Program Manager for the Greater Victoria Green Team - a fairly new group that works to restore and conserve our environment by connecting volunteers (including youth and school classes) to educational, hands-on activities across the CRD.
We have some youth events coming up in Saanich that you and your students may be interested in!
Upcoming habitat restoration opportunities:
Beach Cleanup at Cadboro Bay / Gyro Park on Thursday, March 12 (12:15 to 3:00pm)
Invasive plant removal at Mount Douglas Park on Tues. April 14 (12:15 to 3pm)
Beach Cleanup at Mount Douglas Beach on Tues, April 21 from 12:15-3:00pm
Want to engage your students in hands-on educational opportunities like the ones above but can't on March 12, April 14 or April 21? Email: [email protected]
There is NO COST to participate. Spaces are limited, so please sign up soon. Our invasive removals are most suited to those aged 12 and up. Plantings are suitable for all ages.
Benefits of participating:
· Make a tangible impact on ecosystems
· Get experience within the environmental field
· Learn about the environmental issues facing parks
· Connect to nature
· Learn to become a leader and work as a team
· Gain volunteer hours; and
· Have fun!
No experience is necessary. Instruction, tools, gloves and refreshments are provided!
We will be running 40+ activities this spring/summer on weekends and weekdays all over the Capital Regional District. Please pass on the word about these volunteer opportunities to your students on your website, facebook, twitter, event calendar, blog, email list and/or newsletter! To see our calendar click HERE
We require all parents/guardians to sign the parent consent form (see attached) in order for youth to participate. Do ensure you collect the consent forms from each and every participating student prior to the activity.
Another great opportunity for your students to help their local community through "funraising":
Perhaps one of your school clubs (environmental/green club? leadership club?) might raise funds for our charity to ensure we can keep running our activities? I've attached a pdf document with more details about that. This is a unique fundraising opportunity where you can get creative to help raise funds for our environmental group!
Thank you!

Easter Egg Hunt at Beaver Lake Park April 4, 2015
Looking for service hours? Enjoy gardening or want to learn?
Seedy Saturday is looking for volunteers Sat. Feb. 21, 2015:
Contact person: Alice Wilson [email protected], 250 381 7199
Seedy Saturday is an annual trade show at the Victoria Conference Centre about gardening. There are talks on various gardeny topics that people can attend, and a large hall of exhibitors as well as a seed exchange (where you can take saved seeds and swap them, and/or buy seeds).
The date for this year's show is Saturday February 21. http://jamesbaymarket.com/SeedySaturday/
The roles for which we need volunteers are:
- greeters (direct people traffic, answer questions, hand out programs etc)
- session monitors (manage rooms with speakers; make sure we do not exceed max capacity, introduce speakers)
- cashiers (take admissions, welcome people to the show)
- exhibitor relief (covering short bathroom breaks for solo exhibitors, etc).
The commitment: You would need to be able to attend one of two evening training sessions: either Thurs Wed Feb 18th or Thurs Feb 19th at 5:45 - 6:45pm, and then the day of (Sat Feb 21st) for a few hours (depending on role).
The perks: You get to meet lots of gardener folks and get into an awesome local gardening event for free!
Desirable skills include the ability to:
- communicate clearly
- arrive on time
- proactively identify "lost-looking" people and offer assistance (greeters)
- make small talk with people in line (session monitors)
All jobs will involve standing for several hours and interacting with many people.
We are looking for people who are able to commit to a ~3-4 hour shift (minimum of 2 hours) between 9:15 and 4pm. (The show runs from 10-4) Greeter and cashier shifts are straight blocks. Session monitor shifts are usually split because we need more people on the doors when talks change. Either job leaves the volunteer with plenty of time to explore the show (2-3 hours).
If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, please contact Alice, the volunteer coordinator.

Hey there everyone!!
Every Christmas season, our leadership program puts on the Potato Socks as one of our activities done before the winter break.
Potato socks is a student-led event that occurs annually during the Winter season. All the components required in order for this event to happen are luckily donated through the school, students and a local farm by Reynolds. For two intense weeks, Students are asked to bring in thick long socks, as a donation while Galey Farms donates potatoes as part of their contribution. Small parts such as cutlery, napkins, common condiments are donated through various recognized fast food chains such as Tim Hortons and Starbucks.
Every year we encourage students to donate THICK, LONG, WARM socks as part of this event. Each pair of sock that is donated is equal to 15 mins of volunteer service that can go towards flex service hours or leadership hours.
Socks can be dropped off into Ms Coey's office starting this week. Even one pair of socks will go a long way!
Last year, this event's result was successful and we hope to achieve that again this year!
Leadership/flex students that would like to get involve with this project more than just donating pairs of socks, there will be a meeting held later this week.
For any questions, please email me at [email protected]
I'd be happy to answer them!
Thank you and Happy December!!

My name is Anthea Cheng and I am the Development Coordinator at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria. A kind family is hosting a Haunted House Fundraiser in support of our Mentoring Programs and we are reaching out for volunteers to help with the event. It will be taking place at #3808 Heritage Lane on October 31st from 5:30pm – 9:30pm. Volunteer duties include handling cash/clothing donations, handing out candy to children, dressing up in costume and operating lights and sound of the house. I am wondering if you could please spread the word and pass this opportunity along to any student who may be interested in gaining volunteer hours. I would be more than happy to write a letter for them to verify their volunteer hours as a part of their career planning and transition plan.

YOUth Are Worth It -
Halloween Spooktacular Fundraiser - Featuring Superheroes!
We are hoping that you will consider volunteering to help make this Spooktacular a reality. Many volunteer roles are available leading up to, during and after the Spooktacular on October 31st. For more Information please see the attached flyer!
Quadra Village Community Centre (QVCC) is campaigning to bridge the gap created by a $15,000 temporary reduction in funding in 2014-15 for our Launch Pad program. The Superheroes of Victoria are teaming up with QVCC to help reach this fundraising goal. With the support of you and community organizations we will succeed in maintaining the momentum that we have worked so hard to create for inner city youth. YOUth Are Worth It!
QVCC and the Superheroes are teaming up to create an engaging Halloween Experience that will make Halloween special and also raise funds that will help sustain our inner city youth programs and support the United Way. We will be decorating the two floors of our Community Centre in Halloween theme that will include Halloween Haunted House and Carnival games. This event will have age specific sections that will make the event appeal to all ages and will build on the success of smaller scale Halloween Carnivals held the last 2 years by QVCC. As well it will be bolstered by the presence and involvement of Superheroes of Victoria and a wide range of community volunteers.
Tara Skobel has kindly agreed to Coordinate Volunteers for the Halloween Spooktacular. If you are interested in volunteering for this event she can be reached at [email protected] or 250 891 4083.

Sept 11, 2014 Lake Hill Elementary’s Back to School BBQ fundraiser
You have very nicely suggested kids from your class volunteer at our BBQ in the past and was hoping you would be able to do the same for this coming September.
We will be having Hamster balls, water balloon filling stations, Booger Wars (a tag type game). The volunteers would be helping with the games and assisting with the kids perhaps selling pop and chips...this type of thing. It is very fun and we had 6 from your class last year come and it was a huge help!

Join in with the festivities to help create a successful event for the 6th year! The event gives the public a look behind the scenes at the award winning Hartland landfill. There will be educational displays, guided tours, refreshments and many other interesting happenings to help out with.
The time commitment would be: Sunday, June 24th from approximately 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. We have a variety of volunteer positions that we need to fill including: Welcome Tent Staff, Food & Beverage Attendants, Craft & Activity leaders, and Photographers. This is a great way to earn some fun and easy volunteer hours and we’ll even feed you J Sign up for the whole day or if your calendar is tight, even a few hours would be helpful. We would love to have you join our team.
Please reply to [email protected] if you are interested and available to be a part of the Hartland Happening! You may also call Kristine at 250-474-9613 if you would prefer to leave a voice message.

WOODWYNN FARMS
From: Office @ Woodwynn Farms [mailto:[email protected]]
Sent: March-05-14 1:14 PM
To: reynolds
Subject: Volunteer Opportunity
We, at Woodwynn Farms, would like to invite you to partner with us in changing lives.
Who we are: Woodwynn Farms is our 193 acre organic farm and Therapeutic Community designed to help homeless individuals gain and maintain meaningful self-reliance through employment. We offer a comprehensive and structured integration of counseling, housing, legal services, medical care, life skills, and vocational skills training under one roof. Each individual is supported as a “whole person,” and develops confidence, a positive value system, and a career plan to maintain personal stability and gainful employment throughout their life.
What we need from you: We are looking for groups of volunteers to join us for a day to work along side our residents to help our community and our farm to thrive. Groups will spend the day working on a project, such as preparing our spring garden, building structures, painting buildings, hammering fence posts, organizing our tool shed or clearing blackberry bushes. We are very excited about the possibility of new projects that could help our farm grow, such as the creation of a chicken coop or the conversion more of our land into fruits and vegetables. These projects require fundraising, which is another wonderful way that you can help. Through fundraising, you will not only help to finance these exciting new projects, but you will also have the opportunity to help us implement them first hand, making it an incredibly rewarding and meaningful experience.
What's in it for you: Our volunteer's efforts have a lasting effect on our residents (formerly homeless), who benefit from the sense of community these volunteer days of service provide. Additionally, working on the farm will expose volunteers to the calming beauty of the Peninsula, create a great sense of accomplishment as volunteers assist our non-profit in the worthy endeavor of supporting vulnerable members of society, and leave volunteers with a sense of connection to a population they may otherwise feel quite disconnected from.
A Sample Itinerary:
8:45 am: Check-in at the West Barn (7789 West Saanich Road) Follow parking signs/attendant
9:00 am: Orientation Meeting and assignment to Farm Tasks/Leads
9:30 am: Commence Tasks
12:30: Break for lunch
1:00 pm: Commence tasks
2:30 pm: Stop work/tool pick up/site clean up
2:45-3:00 pm: Gratitude and check-out/Farewell at the West Barn
This itinerary can be adjusted to fit your needs.
If this seems like something your students would be interested in, please contact us at 250-544-1175 or by email at [email protected]. We are primarily looking for volunteer groups to help us out for a day in the spring or fall, Tuesdays through Saturdays. If there is a specific type of activity that would suit your students please let us know and we will try to accommodate that. Please, do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions about the suitability for your students of volunteering here.
On behalf of all the volunteers at Woodwynn, thank you, and we hope to see you out here soon!

HOW? Join family, friends and community members March 10-14 to help restore a North Quadra neighbourhood park to its former glory.
The North Quadra Residents' Association is pleased to announce a partnership project with Pearson College students and Saanich Parks to help restore the Garry Oak Ecosystem of Bruce Hutchison Park.

Why Volunteer? Meet People! Rewarding results! Help the environment! Make a difference in your community! Learn techniques and new ideas!
YOU ARE NEEDED!
